John Tavares was in court today to testify in a case on whether his $15 million signing bonus he got when he signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs should be taxed as income or as an inducement.
The income taxes equate to 44.6%+interest in Canada, bringing the total to over 50%, and an inducement is taxed at 15% in the United States, so you can guess what side Tavares is on and what side the Canada Revenue Agency is on.
