Szuber was acquired by the Canadiens earlier in the off-season via a trade that sent forward Joshua Roy to the Utah Mammoth. He was originally a sixth round pick of the Arizona Coyotes back in 2022.

The 23-year-old Polish-born German defenseman has spent the last sixth-round with the Tucson Roadrunners, where he has proven to be a solid two-way defenseman in the AHL. Last year, Szuber recorded a career-high in goals with 11, while having 27 points in 65 AHL games with the Roadrunners. He made his NHL debut with the Coyotes on April 9th, 2024 against the Seattle Kraken. However, he hasn’t played an NHL game since.

Through his three years with the Roadrunners, Szuber had played 200 games where he scored 25 goals and 87 points along with a +13 rating. He should be a good replacement on the Laval Rocket for William Trudeau, who was traded to the New York Rangers back in June. Szuber is someone who can be seen as a young veteran on the team. Standing at 6-foot-3 201-pounds, he also adds size to the Montreal Canadiens organizational depth on defence.

Montreal Canadiens prospect Vinzenz Rohrer will reportedly be returning to Switzerland to play for EV Zug for the 2026-27 season rather than join the Rocket.

The speedy forward is still under his entry-level contract for another two seasons and will therefore need to be loaned to EV Zug for the upcoming campaign. This will be the second year in a row that Rohrer gets loaned out after he finished a three-year deal with the ZSC Lions last season.
